Developed concurrently with the atomic bomb, Little Boy, the plutonium based atomic bomb code named “Fat Man” was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan on August 9, 1945. Carried by the B-29 Superfortress named “Bockscar”, Fat Man was originally intended to be dropped on the city of Kokura, Japan, but the target was obscured by cloud cover. Once dropped on Nagasaki, Fat Man exploded about 1,650 feet above the city killing an estimated 39,000 people and injuring another 25,000. Radiation illnesses claimed even more casulties.
This paper model kit builds the Fat Man as it would have appeared on its transport carriage in preparation to be loaded into the B-29 for its mission.
