Details

The Roman Frontier Milecastle was a component contained within a larger obstacle.  The Hadrain Wall structure was designed as an obstacle to the movement of enemy armies.  Named after the emperor Hadrain, the structure of a wall with ditches and berms was built over 6 years by up to 5,000 men and extended for 73 miles from the North Sea to the Irish Sea.  Along this wall, forts were built, called Milecastles, as they were evenly spaced by one mile along the wall.  Each milecastle housed small units of soldiers to protect their section of the wall fortification.

This educational paper model kit represents the typical construction of a Roman Frontier Milecastle as it would have appeared during the period which the Roman Empire occupied the area. Perfect for school projects!
