The North American P-51D Mustang may be one of the most recognized and successful Fighter aircraft of all time of all time.  Serving throughout WW2 in the European and Pacific theaters, it is still flown today in various evolved configurations. After 1948, the P (Pursuit) designation on USAF aircraft was changed to F (for Fighter), and the Mustang became the F-51.

This kit builds AC-274 of 402 Squadron RCAF, "The City of Winnipeg Squadron", circa 1958

This ex-USAF aircraft  was delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 and served with the 442 and 403 squadrons, before finally retiring in 1959. The Mustang's last service home was with 402 Squadron, Manitoba, carrying the code AC274.  After retirement the aircraft was sold to a private owner, the first of many over the last 50 years. In 1969 it flew as a Racer. In 1975 it crashed, killing its owner at that time. After being restored to  its original USAAF serial and markings, it was owned for a short time by rock musician David Gilmour, of Pink Floyd, during the mid 1980s.
