The North American P-51 Mustang may be one of the most recognized and successful Fighter aircraft of all time of all time. Serving throught WW2 in the European and Pacific theaters, it is still flown today in various evolved configurations.

Powered by an American Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the P-51 proved to be outstandingly fast and maneuverable, with long range extended by the use of drop tanks. The aircraft also excelled as a fighter-bomber, escorting B-17s and B-24s on raids deep into enemy territory. The first Merlin powered Mustangs (B and C models) appeared in 1943.

Although many other aircraft were used, the P-51 Mustang became the recognized aircraft of the 332nd Squadron Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen were dedicated, determined young men who enlisted to become America's first black military airmen, at a time of racial bias and segregation, when there were many people who thought that black men lacked intelligence, skill, courage and patriotism. They quickly established a reputation of being the "best Fighter escort a Bomber could have"! The outstanding record of black airmen in World War II was accomplished by men whose names will forever live in hallowed memory. Names like Lee Archer and "INA The Macon Belle" and the Tuskegee Airmen.

This paper model builds "INA The Macon Belle" as flown by famed Tuskegee Airman Lee Archer, and features a historically accurate paint scheme and markings. A replica of this famous aircraft flies today.
