Details

A single engine advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots of the United States Army Air Forces and Navy during WWII.  The Texan was also used by the Royal Air Force and other forces of the British Commonwealth during WWII.

After the war, the T-6 continued its service, serving in Korea as a forward air controller (or "mosquito missions" as they were known).  These missions carried an observer in the second seat to spot enemy troops and gun emplacements for the pilot to mark with white phosphorous (willy pete) rockets for attacking aircraft.

Texans (or Harvards) have been flown by as many as 70 different countries and many are still flying today as exhibition and air show aircraft.

This paper model builds a T-6 of the Blue Angels demonstration team.  Formed in 1946, the Navy Flight Exhibition Team, later renamed the Blue Angels, debuted in Florida.  Initially flying the Grumman F6f Hellcat, the team performed formation and combat flying demonstrations.  Not having a Japanese Zero aircraft, the team pressed a squadron T-6 aircraft into the role of the adversary.  Originally painted as a Japanese A6M, the Texan was later repainted yellow, and named "Beetle Bomb".

Paper Model Details: Over 130 parts on eight parts pages, three pages of construction diagrams, fuselage and wing formers, simulated detailed wheel wells, detailed landing gear, detailed cockpit, optional clear or printed canopy, graphic textures and realistic weathering/surface features, optional parts for gear up or down version. Degree of Difficulty: 3/5. If you enjoy building this paper model, please contribute a review!
