Details

The North American P-51D Mustang may be one of the most recognized and successful Fighter aircraft of all time of all time.  Powered by an American Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the P-51 proved to be outstandingly fast and maneuverable, with long range extended by the use of drop tanks. The aircraft also excelled as a fighter-bomber, escorting B-17s and B-24s on raids deep into enemy territory. Serving through WW2 in the European and Pacific theaters, it is still flown today in various evolved configurations. After 1948, the P (Pursuit) designation on USAF aircraft was changed to F (for Fighter)...the Mustang became an F-51.

This kit builds Mustang KH680, code Y2-B, of RCAF 442 "Caribou" squadron based at Hunsdon, Herts, UK.  This aircraft is marked as the "Edmonton Special", the personal aircraft of John Mallandaine of Vancouver.  442 Squadron flew one of the last operational missions of WWII in Europe on May 9th 1945 escorting channel island naval forces against resistant German forces.  This paper model is finished with yellow trim and yellow antiglare panel on the cowling over an RAF temperate camouflage with standard RAF/RCAF markings.
