Details

The North American P-51D/K Mustang may be one of the most recognized and successful Fighter aircraft of all time of all time.
Serving throught WW2 in the European and Pacific theaters, it is still flown today in various evolved configurations.

Hundreds of Mustangs were acquired by the Chinese Nationalist Air Force (CNAF) from the allied forces after World War 2. These aircraft were used in many actions against the Red (Communist) Chinese Forces, and many were captured by the Red Chinese Air Force - the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).
These Mustangs were hastily repainted to cover original CNAF paintwork, as well as to cover damage and wear. The aircraft were also remarked with the Red Star insignia. Since parts for the US made Mustangs were unavailable, most of these aircraft were never reflown.
Two such examples of captured Mustangs are on display in Air Museums in China.
This model represents one of those display aircraft (at the Military Museum of Chinese people's Revolution, in Beijing)

Powered by an American Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the P-51 proved to be outstandingly fast and maneuverable,
with long range extended by the use of drop tanks. The aircraft also excelled as a fighter-bomber, escorting B-17s and B-24s on raids deep into enemy territory.
