Details

The North American P-51D Mustang may be one of the most recognized and successful Fighter aircraft of all time.  Powered by an American Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the P-51 proved to be outstandingly fast and maneuverable, with long range extended by the use of drop tanks. The aircraft also excelled as a fighter-bomber, escorting B-17s and B-24s on raids deep into enemy territory. Serving throught WW2 in the European and Pacific theaters, it is still flown today in various evolved configurations. After 1948, the P (Pursuit) designation on USAF aircraft was changed to F (for Fighter)...the Mustang became an F-51.

This kit builds "Dallas Doll" P-51D 44-14495 assigned to Lt. Frank H. Bouldin, Jr, of the 352nd Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group.  Lt. Bouldin was officially credited with three confirmed aerial victories.
